In my professional career Ive designed logo's, brochures, business cards, band stage backdrops, pet portraits, 4'x 8' corporate advertisements for baseball fences, floral design, and various private commissioned works, along with sales of my personal artwork. Ive spent 26 years in photographic arts--the past 16 years as a small business owner specializing in positive art and negative retouching, and action sports photography.
I've been ... well ...what I call 'dabbling in artwork' for myself ever since I can remember, probably since I picked up my first crayon. My earliest painting was saved for me from kindergarten - an elephant - that now hangs in my living room.
Artwork - in all its forms - is expression. My creations are the things I do for me. My subjects vary from everyday observations to fantasy. It's whatever I feel at the time...whatever sparks my thoughts, or peaks my interest, or that certain thing I just cant seem to get out of my head in any other way. It all seems to find its way out ...be it a drawing, a watercolor, sometimes an oil piece, lately pastel, wire sculpture and glass...or even in written verse.
They call it 'a passion' - 'a gift '- 'something to be shared with the world'. I've even dubbed it a 'curse' in those moments when nothing goes right, no matter what I do, or how hard I try. Some days it works, others it doesn't.
With that said, and critics lurking, I still feel its time to share my 'dabbling' with you.
'Through all the turmoil of everyday life, there's always the expression of art to come back to.'
